La Palma, wild beauty of the Canary Islands, a place of eternal spring, evergreen nature and tranquillity. A mini continent in the Atlantic with regional variety and originality.

Santa Cruz is the island’s capital and is situated on the east coast with a narrow beach and colourful buildings. It was once one of Europe’s most important harbour cities and gateway to the New World. The Plaza De España is still the centre of the city and framing the small square are town houses, the town hall, statue of priest Manuel Diaz, and a church.

On the opposite side of the river is the Castillo De La Virgen with bright white walls, a cross above the door and numerous ornate guns. The small fort was built as a defence against pirates who were highly active in the region in the second half of the sixteenth century.

Castillo is a village on the rugged north west coast, isolated, with stone buildings and vines growing on steep terraces. The volcanic slopes provide first class soil for viticulture and it is here that the dark and heavy Malvasia wine is produced.

A fourteen kilometre long range of volcanoes frames the centre of the island, the Caldera de Taburiente, the largest volcanic crater in the world. Los Llanos De Aridane, at the southern foot of the caldera, is also known as the ‘capital of the secret island’.

La Palma is the green heart of the Canary Islands, a garden of Eden set amid the Atlantic.
