Today Gdańsk is the Polish port metropolis on the Baltic Sea. About 1,000 years ago the history of the once German-speaking free city of Danzig began. In 1945 the city was extensively destroyed, but rebuilt according to historical plans, photos and drawings.

Gdańsk is the "City of Freedom", a veritable treasury of bourgeois culture.
